Trace Adkins has just launched his Christmas tour, and he stopped by Taste of Country Nights to talk about the uniquely intimate concert experience.

The show features Adkins performing holiday classics and material from his album 'The King's Gift,' and addressing the audience directly between songs.

"It's about as close to a one-man play as I'll ever get," the singer tells ToC Nights host Sam Alex. "There's narration between the songs, a lot of historical anecdotes about these songs that we've all grown up hearing, but have no idea where they came from."

The stage is set up to feel like spending the holidays at home with the singer, featuring him telling stories in a leather chair, with a Christmas tree and stockings hanging on the fireplace.

"I wanted it to look like my living room at Christmas," Adkins shares. "We wanted it to feel like that and look like that, and the set decorators did a great job. Musically this is the most beautiful project I've ever been a part of."

The Christmas Show tour kicked off Friday (Nov. 14) in New York, and will run through Dec. 21 before wrapping up in Clearwater, Fla. See a complete list of dates here.

Sam Alex is the host of Taste of Country Nights radio, a syndicated night show which airs on more than 60 Townsquare Media Group stations nationwide.
