Today Marks Courtlin’s Two-Year KHAK Anniversary [PHOTOS]

Does this mean nobody can call me "the new girl" anymore?

Well, I made it, you guys. I've officially been here in Iowa for two whole years. It's kind of insane to me, really. Two years doesn't feel like that long, but at the same time it kind of feels like forever.

I still remember my first day here. I'm not talking about my first day on the air, I'm talking the first day I ever stepped in the state of Iowa. It was about a month before I started, and I was flown in for an interview. I was told Cedar Rapids was a city setting, but when I got off that plane, all I saw was the smallest airport I've ever encountered and a wholllllle lot of open land. I was whisked away to Listener Lunch at Wild Hogs, where I met Bob James and Brain for the very first time. I think it was kind of a test, really. They wanted to just throw me in the water and see if I could swim. Apparently, I'm a better swimmer than I thought.

The next day was my first day on the air. I got to sit in with Brain and join him for a break. I'm pretty sure we talked about raccoons. Fast forward to the weekend of November 8th, and I'm sitting in the office of my new apartment building trying not to have a complete mental breakdown. What was I THINKING? Moving to a new state eight hours away, where I didn't know a soul? What did I say to convince myself to do something TOTALLY INSANE like that?! I don't even know. All I know is that I'm glad that I did it. This might sound silly, but I consider it to be the bravest thing I've ever done. I don't regret it for a single second.

I love interacting with you on Facebook and at KHAK events, or just running into you at the bar on Friday nights. Your kindness and acceptance is the ONLY reason I've made it through these past two years, and I cannot be more thankful. Even to those of you who secretly hate my guts but still listen: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. My life would suck without you and KHAK.
