A travel website has compiled a list of the coolest things about each of the 50 states. California's black sand beaches? That's cool. Hot springs in Idaho? Absolutely. But what they chose in Iowa made my blood boil.

Yahoo Travel's pick for the coolest thing in Iowa? The World's Largest Truck Stop in Walcott. No offense to the truck stop but, really, that's the coolest thing in Iowa? I beg to differ. I've lived in Iowa all but a few months of my life so here's a few suggestions of things that I believe would've been better choices:

1. The Field of Dreams in Dyersville. Picturesque, famous, and with the backdrop of corn        in the summer, it definitely says "Iowa."

2. The Iowa State Fair, one of the largest in the U.S., was even held in Cedar Rapids a            handful of times in its early years. The biggest must-see? The famous Butter Cow.

3. Just down the road... the Amana Colonies. The shops, the history, the heritage, and the      FOOD. Family-style is awesome.

4. The Pella Tulip Festival & its Dutch Heritage. Even though they've had difficulty timing          the tulips the last few years, we always attended it growing up. It was always a favorite      of my late grandparents too, which gives it a second soft spot in my heart.

5. Iowa's Covered Bridges. Here's The Hogback Bridge in Madison County. These                 beauties were made famous by "The Bridges of Madison County." It's been awhile, so       maybe they've been forgotten. If so, that's a real shame.

There are plenty of other choices...

The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake where Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson played their final show before the tragic plane crash, i.e. "The Day The Music Died." The late country legend Waylon Jennings gave up his seat on the plane to Richardson.

The scenic fall colors via the Great River Road.

Lake Okoboji and all it's recreational opportunities.

John Wayne's birthplace in Winterset.

Herbert Hoover's Presidential Museum & Library in West Branch.

These are just the tassel of the cornstalk, if you will. I know I'm missing some things. What would you vote for as the coolest thing about Iowa?
