Long lines and deadlines. That's what folks in eastern Iowa can expect this week if they want to ship any last minute Christmas gifts. The U.S. Postal Service says that this week is the busiest shipping time of the year.

We're getting down to the wire if you want your holiday packages to arrive at their destinations on time. Let's talk deadlines. The USPS deadlines are Thursday for first class mail Saturday for express next day delivery. Other carriers like UPS and FedEx also have deadlines this week.

At the Cedar Rapids post office, over 134,000 packages went out last week. Expect that number to grow significantly this week, the busiest of the year. The USPS has added 14 workers to the Cedar Rapids center to help with packages and processing. Officials with the postal service say most people are aware of the deadlines. Because of the added pressure to get packages out on time, you might notice your daily mail being delivered slightly later. It's a small price to pay to make sure everything gets out by Christmas!
