The highly successful film 'Black Panther' recently moved past the movie 'Titanic' into third place for the highest grossing movie of all time. Rare air to be sure. But when you talk about the biggest selling entertainment products of all time, two words come to mind. Star Wars. The movie franchise created by George Lucas has grossed over $4 billion after being adjusted for inflation. That was until this year. A new entertainment champion has been crowned and it's NOT a movie. It's a game.

The game Grand Theft Auto Five was released in 2013, and I like millions of other gamers, picked up a copy. The mature themed game is an open world experience that puts you in the criminal underground. You can steal cars, rob stores, buy real estate. The possibilities are nearly endless. Now when I say it's a mature game, I mean it. You can also do an endless list of horrible things, but you make the game what you want.

Rockstar Games has announced that sales of the game have now exceeded 90 million copies. Combine that with the extras that can be purchased in-game, and GTA V has grossed over $6 billion dollars. Not bad for a video game. That is more than the Avatar, the highest grossing movie EVER has made, and more than all of the Star Wars universe combined!

Can they do it again? It's unlikely. The game hit at a time when it was available on older and next-generation gaming consoles. Rockstar has another high profile game coming out this year in Red Dead Redemption 2. But it likely won't touch the biggest game of them all, GTA V.
