Whether you love 'em or hate 'em, dive bars are all over the place in Iowa!

"There's graffiti everywhere. There's radiator heat. There's a distinct possibility you'll have to hold the bathroom door closed while you're using said bathroom. The music's loud. The beers are cold and cheap, and the bartenders deliver them with just the right balance between friendliness and efficiency. The smell has that requisite "I can't quite pinpoint what that is" quality that's necessary in any worthwhile dive bar..."

If that sounds good to you, then you would LOVE The Locust Tap in Des Moines! That's what the website Thrillist had to say about the bar on their list the 'Best Dive Bar in Every State.' The Locust Tap was named the best dive bar in the state of Iowa, and based on the photos, it looks like my kind of place! Sometimes I like going to popular or fancier bars, but I can't help but love hole-in-the-wall bars that make people say, "why are you going THERE?"

My favorite dive bar in the local area has to be the Viking Lounge in Cedar Rapids. The drinks are cheap, the people are friendly, it always smells like fried food, and there's endless karaoke! I have had some of the most fun nights at that place, even celebrating my birthday there this year!
