The 4th of July holiday was celebrated by lots of Americans earlier this month, but unfortunately, it created a serious need for blood. According to KCRG, "the American Red Cross has declared a blood emergency nationwide." Because of the holiday, many people were busy, so blood drives were not as successful as they were expected to be.

A little of your blood can actually go a long way. Nicole Miller from the American Red Cross Blood Donation Center in Dubuque told KCRG, "When we collect your whole blood we get your red cells, your platelets, and your plasma, and that goes back to our lab and it gets separated in those three bags. So each of those components of your blood could go to three different people." They supply blood to 2,600 different hospitals in the U.S., so your donation helps patients all over the country.

    • July 21st from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
    • July 23rd from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
    • August 4th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
    • August 13th from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
    • August 18th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
    • August 27th from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sacred Heart Church - 302 Ely St, Walker
    • July 26th from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Center Point Public Library - 720 Main St, Center Point
    • August 10th from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
