The Iowa State Fair begins a week from today and somehow they've managed to find at least 15 more food items that will make your mouth water. Here're this year's new additions, along with where you'll find each one on the fairgrounds.

  1. Deep-Fried Cherry Pie. It'll be topped with a cherry glaze. I may have to have two. (Deep-Fried Twinkies stand)
  2. 27-degree Super Chill Beer. This is definitely one you'll want to drink slow or you'll get the worst brain-freeze you've ever had in your life. (Steer 'N' Stein)
  3. Corn in a Cup. Tis the season for sweet corn and this one is cut off the cob after being grilled. Add a little mayo, lime juice, cheese, butter, and you have perfection in a cup. (Corn Stand in Ruan Plaza)
  4. Golden Fried Peanut Butter & Jelly On-a-Stick. No other description is needed on this one. The only question may be how long it takes you to devour it. (Veggie-Table)
  5.  Donut Sundae. Slice a cinnamon sugar donut in half and put ice cream inside then top with whip cream and sundae topping. (in Walnut Square)
  6. Ultimate Bacon Brisket Bomb. A half-pound brisket with a little jalapeno cheese, wrapped in bacon, and finished with a little homemade Sweet Chili BBQ Sauce. Yes, please. (Rib Shack in Walnut Square)
  7. Pumpkin Spice Funnel Cake. I'll be honest, this one doesn't sound good to me. Then again, I'm not even a pumpkin guy during the holiday season. Still, topped with powder sugar, as funnel cakes must be, makes it sound a lot more appetizing to me. (Westmoreland's Funnel Cakes)
  8. Gluten-Free Corndog. Whether you're gluten-conscious or not, it's another alternative. This item is cooked in a fryer separate from your normal corn dog. (Northeast corner of the Varied Industries Building)
  9. Bruschetta. Just the word makes my taste buds stand at attention. I could eat this stuff to oblivion, I think. Toasted ciabatta with fresh basil, olive oil, and local tomatoes on top. Mmmm. (Parlo's Pizza)
  10. Apple Pie On-a-Stick. Sprinkled with cinnamon, sugar, and even caramel glaze. (Applishus)
  11. Chocolate Dipped Strawberries On-a-Stick. This awesome Iowa summertime fruit is the ultimate finger food, but the stick allows you to keep all your digits clean. (West end of Jacobsen Building)
  12. Deep Fried Nacho Balls. Jalapeno pieces, taco meat, some cheddar cheese, taco sauce, crushed Doritos, deep fried and served with a side of nacho cheese. How can this NOT be good? (Jalapeno Pete's)
  13. Toasted Coconut Caramel Cluster. Fudge, caramel, toasted coconut, and pretzel pieces are frozen then dipped in chocolate for your sweet delight. (Dipped in Chocolate Stand outside Livestock Pavillion)
  14. Kernel Kluster. Popcorn balls with or without M&M's, served on a stick. What's a bit different here is that they feature a soft and chewy marshmallow base.  (Snappy Popcorn)
  15. Cattleman's Steak Wrap. This is a full foot-long tortilla wrap packed with lettuce, tomato, cheese, onion, and of course, seasoned steak. Grab a side of salsa or sour cream to finish it off. (Cattlemen's Beef Quarters)

Don't see something on the list that you already have a craving for? Here's the complete list of foods that will be available this year, and where you can find them. Just remember... moderation. The meaning of the word. I don't expect you to practice it when you're at the Iowa State Fair. I mean, seriously.
