For the 16th straight summer, this was my favorite view in Cedar Rapids.

Kernels Baseball

The Cedar Rapids Kernels gave us a thrill this year at The Vet. Their march through the playoffs and into the Championship Series was fun to witness. The epic climax witnessed last night before 2300 fans didn't give us the result we wanted, but what a great season it was. After going up 2 games to 1 in the series with West Michigan, the K's lost each of the last two games by a run. Last night's final was 3-2.

While his players look for winter ball opportunities, Kernels Manager Jake Mauer will now head north and join his Minnesota Twin managing brother Joe. That team is still in the hunt for a playoff berth with just a handful of games remaining.

My kids and I love hitting the ballpark. One of the coaches even gave my son a game ball this season. Priceless memory. Thank you Cedar Rapids Kernels players and staff for another fabulous year of Midwest League baseball.
