Few would suggest current SNL Weekend Update team Colin Jost and Michael Che as the segment’s peak, likely putting past pairs like Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon higher on the list. The two even made an unexpected return to the desk this weekend, but not exactly as we remember them.
Boy, that SNL train keeps right on chugging today. Following word that Lin-Manuel Miranda (and maybe Emily Blunt) would follow Margot Robbie as this weekend’s Season 42 premiere host, there’s even more breaking news. Jack Donaghy himself, Alec Baldwin will take over the role of Donald Trump, with the first debate promo already online.
We still don’t have a host or musical guest for the rapidly-approaching SNL premiere, but the turnover of Season 42 continues. Following the addition of three new cast members, SNL has hired a grand total of seven new writers, including viral comedy duo BriTANicK, Jimmy Kimmel Live! alum, UCB vets and more.
It’s three out, and three in for SNL Season 42, at least so far. Where previously writer Mikey Day was eyed to join the cast in the wake of Taran Killam, Jay Pharoah and Jon Rudnitsky’s departure, NBC has done two better. Day will indeed join the cast, alongside fellow new additions Alex Moffat, and Melissa Villaseñor.
It might surprise you to learn that Amy Poehler had never won an Emmy before last night, but less so that she’d make history doing it. Ahead of the full ceremony next Sunday, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey both took home Emmy awards for their SNL hosting, and made history in the process.
