Sometimes change can happen right in front of you and you don't even realize it. Take for example the old Kirkwood Resource Center in Marion. The building, located off of 8th Avenue was purchased by the Marion School District, and will be the home to the new Longfellow Elementary. Its a site that I drive by probably at least twice a week. So, imagine how I felt when one day I drove by and the building was gone. Sometimes progress can happen in the blink of an eye.

The site is being prepared for the construction of the new Longfellow Elementary, which will replace Emerson Elementary in the Marion Independent School District. In a way, it will be a sad day to see Emerson go. All three of our kids have gone to Emerson, with Carly and Cayleigh still there right now. To say the school is outdated though, is an understatement. It's one of the oldest in the district. The staff there has done a great job of working within the limits of the facility, but the time has come for a new beginning.

Construction bids for the Longfellow school will go out later this spring. The goal is to begin the 2017-2018 school year in the new building! That would mean both of my daughters would get to have at least one year in the brand new school building. It will be an exciting time for students, parents and educators!
