The city of Marion is looking at the possibility of letting minors into bars during daytime hours if they are with a guardian.

Les Arnold, the owner of Brick Alley Pub and Sports Bar in Marion, says the current law limits who can come into his business since they do not serve food. Arnold says he would like to rent out extra space for special events to make some extra money. He says because current law prohibits him from having children in the building, he's had to turn away business.

According to Marion law, a bar is determined as a place that makes more than half its sales from alcohol. The Marion city council heard comments on the issue Tuesday night and will take a vote on possible changes at a future meeting.

Leaders with the Area Substance Abuse Council worry that allowing minors in a bar is a bad influence and could lead to more cases of underage drinking.
