Whether your a professional with a fancy camera, or just a person with a good eye and an iPhone, today is a day to celebrate photography!

I want to start by saying that I am in no way, shape, or form, a photographer. I like to think that I have a decent eye for snapping pics, but I am not trying to claim that I am at all educated in the art of photography. I do have a great appreciation for it, though. And a great appreciation for professional photographers. I've been begging my mom to give me her fancy, expensive camera since I was a teenager. Still no luck.

The official World Photo Day website says:

"No matter who you are, where you are or what equipment and skills you have, World Photo Day can help open your eyes to the possibilities of photography, and enable you show us the world as you see it."

August 19th was chosen as World Photo Day, because back in 1839 the Daguerreotype became the first practical photographic process, and the patent was purchased and released by the French government as a free gift to the world.
