On Monday (Oct. 23), Shania Twain will appear as a guest judge on Dancing With the Stars, People reports. The episode will feature the show’s competitors, including ‘90s boy band star Nick Lachey and former professional football player Terrell Owens, presenting their takes on iconic dance performances from film. In addition to weighing in on the moves of the competitors, Twain is set to perform her new song “Soldier” during the episode. Dancing with the Stars airs on ABC at 8PM ET.
Now in its 75th year, the CSX Santa Train will feature the legendary Ricky Skaggs as its 2017 special guest. Started in 1942, the Santa Train chugs from Shelby, Ky., to Kingsport, Tenn., delivering holiday gifts, food and winter clothing to needy families in 14 cities along its route. This year’s Santa Train departs the station on Nov. 18; fans can follow the journey by checking the #SantaTrainIs75 hashtag on Instagram and Twitter.
Once again in 2017, numerous artists will share special releases as part of Record Store Day’s Black Friday celebration. This year, country and Americana artists are well-represented among the batch of exclusives that will be available. Crate-diggers will find a re-release of Willie Nelson’s iconic album Spirit, originally released in 1996, and a 7” record from Eric Church will feature live performances of “Mistress Named Music” and “Holdin’ My Own,” both recorded on Church’s 2017 tour. Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry House is set for a major renovation. According to the Tennesseean, the iconic country music venue will receive $12 million in upgrades, including adding parking to the area, a larger retail space and an “enhanced” VIP area that will provide more room for backstage tours. The project is expected to be completed in January of 2019.
Miranda Lambert will be featured on Green Day’s upcoming album Greatest Hits: God’s Favorite Band. Lambert joins the punk rock band for the song “Ordinary World,” which originally comes from their 2016 album Revolution Radio. While the collaboration may seem unexpected, Lambert previously joined Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong for a collaboration at the 2014 Grammy Awards in honor of Phil Everly. The music and lyrics for “Ordinary World” were written by Armstrong; Greatest Hits: God’s Favorite Band will be released on Nov. 17.
Jason Isbell has been named the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s 2017 artist-in-residence and is set to perform three “intimate and unique” shows at the museum’s CMA Theatre in December. He joins country legends such as Kris Kristofferson, Jerry Douglas, Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs and Rosanne Cash, the latter of whom served as the venue’s most recent artist-in-residence in 2015. Tickets for Isbell’s shows on Dec. 5, 12 and 19 go on sale Friday (Oct. 27).
In recognition of her work with Habitat for Humanity, Trisha Yearwood was honored with a proclamation from the state of Georgia. Yearwood received the award from her friend, former president Jimmy Carter, who surprised the artist on stage at a performance in her hometown of Atlanta, Ga.
“It’s such an honor to receive recognition from my home state of Georgia, and to have president Jimmy Carter, a man who has inspired me, present my proclamation, is truly special,” says Yearwood in a statement. “The work Habitat for Humanity does is so important, and I’m humbled to be a part of their organization. I hope to continue working on site builds for a very long time.”
Jake Owen, Jessie James Decker and Kelsea Ballerini have recorded versions of classic Christmas songs for the soundtrack of the animated holiday film The Star. Owen’s version of “What Child Is This,” Ballerini’s take on “Children Go Where I Send You” and Decker’s cover of “Breath of Heaven (Mary’s Song)” will appear on the film’s 12-song soundtrack, set for release in stores and online on Oct. 27.
