Julie and I spent Saturday thru Tuesday morning in St. Louis and had a smooth vacation. That is, until a stop on the way home.

We typically stop in Hannibal, Missouri as it's near the half-way point of the trek to the Gateway City. On the return trip, we needed to stop for gas and also to pick up a handful of items at Walmart. We decided to get gas right in front of the store and save a stop. Julie got out and proceeded toward Walmart to start grabbing what we needed, and that's when it happened.

A van pulled up at the pump next to me just as Julie started in the direction of the store. In what seemed like a flash, there was a woman, a baby, and a man with the largest gas can you've ever seen staring at me. Uh oh.

The woman began to explain they were traveling from Arizona to, I don't even recall where, and they weren't asking for money just some gasoline. That was an interesting description, but I understood what she was saying. So what to do? I removed the nozzle from my tank and proceeded to pump them several gallons of gas. They immediately put it into their tank as I pulled ahead and parked in front of Walmart. As I pulled away and parked, she watched me the whole way, still holding the baby. After I put gas in their can, I couldn't help but wonder why she removed the baby from his/her car seat at a gas station. However, I knew the answer and it worked beautifully.

Was I scammed or did I help a family genuinely in need? What would you have done in that position?
