One man's passion for the veterans of Iowa, and his incredible talents, continue to combine for wonderful salutes and centerpieces of pride.

Several years ago, Bubba Sorensen II began painting Freedom Rocks to honor the veterans from different areas around Iowa. His goal was to paint one in all 99 of Iowa's counties. Earlier this year, he reached the halfway point. At top are some of his beautiful works of art from the past several months, including one just down the road in Shellsburg. That's where the Benton County Freedom Rock resides.

The Linn County Freedom Rock will be located on the Linn County Fairgrounds in Central City. John Mikelson Midwest Military Outreach has identified a 50-ton rock near Mt. Vernon that we hope to use as the Linn County Freedom Rock.

We are still in need of donations to help with costs associated with the Linn County Freedom Rock. All donations are tax-deductible and are being accepted by Dupaco Community Credit Union. Credit Union members can call 800-373-7600 to donate. Members and non-members can drop off donations at any Dupaco location. Checks should be made payable to the “Linn County Freedom Rock Foundation.” When the Linn County Freedom Rock is complete, any remaining money will be donated to Midwest Military Outreach.

Please consider a donation this week, as we honor veterans, past and present, for their incredible sacrifices.
