To post or not to post? That is the question.

Let's face it: times are much different than they were 20, 10, or even 5 years ago. With an endless number of social media platforms, phones that can do just about anything, and ways to connect with people that didn't even exist until recently, it's a whole new world out there. But, with more opportunity comes more responsibility, and with responsibility comes rules. Remember, things on the internet last forever! Here are some dos and don'ts for today's world of technology, for better or worse:

  • Don't ever send bad news over text message
  • Don't end a relationship over text or social media
  • Don't gossip about people on social media
  • Don't text or post on social media while drunk
  • Don't overshare on social media
  • Don't private message people on social media that you don't know
  • Don't hide your viewing history from your partner
  • Don't snoop through your partner's phone
  • Don't send a message or post something on social media when you're angry or emotional
  • Don't "reply all" to a message or email unless it's something everyone NEEDS to see
  • Always let someone know when you're going to be late
  • Always call work to let them know you're sick rather than text
  • Always wish close friends/family a "happy birthday" via text or in person, rather than on social media

Do you have any other etiquette rules to add to the list? Let us know yours in the comments!
