The Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) is just three months away and this morning they announced the route it will take across eastern Iowa.

The pedaling begins on Sunday, July 22 in Onawa, Iowa but it won't reach the eastern part of the state until Thursday, July 26. That's the day the thousands upon thousands of riders will begin in Newton and make their way to my hometown of Sigourney. That day also features what's called a Karras Loop Day, and optional 36.7-mile addition to a day that already features 68.6 miles.

*The 2018 ride is dedicated to Ann Karras, known as the First Lady of RAGBRAI.

Friday takes the ride into Johnson County as it makes its way through Harper, Keota, Wellman, Kalona, Riverside, and Hills on the way to the overnight stop in Iowa City. It's also College Spirit Day. What's unique about this ride is that SO many people come from all over the U.S. to be part of it. If you're expecting to just see Iowa, Iowa State, UNI, and Iowa small college colors along the route that day, you'll be in for a surprise.
