We have confirmed the passing of former Iowa Football Defensive Coordinator Norm Parker.  No cause of death has been announced.  Norm led the defensive side of the ball for the first 13 years under head coach Kirk Ferentz, retiring after the 2011 season following a 48-year career.  During his Hawkeye tenure, Iowa finished in the national top 10 in rushing defense four times and finished in the top 12 nationally in scoring defense three straight years beginning in 2007.  His bend, don't break, defense was a key ingredient to Iowa's success but Iowans also loved his sense of humor.  His players, loved him even more.  Norm Parker was 72.  Here are just some of the tweets from former Hawkeyes this morning:

"Boys do what they want to do, Men do what they need to do." One of greatest Men I've ever known... R.I.P. Coach Parker

R.I.P. Coach Norm Parker. Thank you for everything!

RIP to Norm Parker great mentor & leader on & off the field, everyone keep him & his family in yours prayers.
