When you're a school board, you come to realize that some of the decisions you make might not be the most popular. Once again, their latest proposal has seemed to leave parents fuming, although the kids might like it, and it concerns the District Calendar for next year.

If you remember, the original proposal released in December called for a late start every Wednesday to allow faculty more prep time. That did not seem to go over very well, leaving many working parents frustrated as they try to figure out how to make that work. So changes were made, and the latest proposal was released yesterday. While the late start remains, it'll be moved to Mondays.

As a kid, this is fantastic news, right? It's almost like a dream come true, as the weekend is extended. However, the big issue of how late starts affect working parents is still not being addressed.  As numerous parents have commented, it just moves the problem from Wednesday to Monday. Many are also suggesting full days off for staff development and planning needs, as opposed to all the late start/early out formulas of the past couple years.

Do have concerns or frustrations? This isn't the final calendar. There will be a public hearing on the calendar next Monday at 5:30p, during the regular meeting of the Board of Education, held at the Education Building off Edgewood.
