Rainy day today, with another one projected for tomorrow... looks like a good time to curl up under a blanket and catch a good flick.  Maybe watch a pig on the screen, while enjoying a plate of bacon, or BLTs, or something. Bacon on the brain?  We know we sure do with Baconfest coming up in just a couple weeks. So click the button to get your tickets for Baconfest Sept. 26th to deepen your love of the pig!

And no, Kevin BACON did not make the list.

    Miss Piggy

Kermit's ex-favorite girl might just be the most well known Pig in film, and maybe the rudest as well. But she is featured in quite a line-up of great movies to check out.  Our favorite is the "Great Muppet Caper", but don't forget "Muppets Take Manhatten", "Muppets in Space", "Muppet Treasure Island", "Muppets Wizard of Oz", The original "Muppet Movie", as well as the more recent "The Muppets" and "Muppets Most Wanted".

    Piglet

Perhaps one of the cutest pigs on film is Winnie the Pooh's pal Piglet.  The poor guy might just be scared of just about everything, but he never misses a moment to be completely loveable.  The best part, he does occasionally conquer his fears, teaching us all a great lesson.  Even if he often misses the "favorite character" list, behind the bear, Eeyore, and Tigger, there's no denying we all have a soft spot for this pig. Did you know he wasn't in Disney's original Winnie the Pooh film, "Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree"?  However, they thankful brought him to life in "Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day".  Catch him in our favorite "Pooh's Heffalump Movie", "Piglet's big Movie", "the Tigger Movie", or his brief cameo in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." (Bet you didn't know that.)

    Wilbur

Despite a common fear of spiders, every kid has (or should) have grown-up with one spider near and dear to our heart... Charlotte of "Charlotte's Web" fame.  She warmed our hearts, and left us in tears as she made it her life's mission to save one very special pig... Wilbur.  While 1973 animated film is our favorite, the live action in 2006 starring Dakota Fanning wasn't bad either.  The 2003 animated sequel is okay, but you're not missing much if you haven't caught it.

    Babe

Another great film from childhood, and a favorite if you're really into the live action talking animal films.  The story of a pig who wants to be a sheepdog might just be one of the most acclaimed pig films too, as it was nominated for 7 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won the Golden Globe for Best Musical or comedy.  The 1998 sequel didn't fare so well, but sequels rarely do. (Did you know many of the shots in the film are actually animatronic pigs?)

    Porky Pig

Porky might just be one of the most legendary pigs on this list.  In fact, he was the star, before becoming Daffy Duck's antagonist (who would eventually be replaced as top dog by a certain bunny names Bugs!) No matter how popular Daffy and Bugs would become, Porky was still blessed with almost always getting the last word, closing out the show, bursting through onto center screen to exclaim, "Th-th-th-that's All Folks!"  Biggest feature film to catch would be "Space Jam", "Space Jam 2", or "Looney Tunes: Back in Action", although there's plenty of shorts/compilations, as well as Porky's cameo in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" as well. We were even able to snag him for one of our BaconFest promos.

    Hamm

Perhaps the best series of Disney/Pixar films to ever come out were the "Toy Story" films.  It's one of the few series where the sequels were just as good, if not better, than the originals.  And all 3 featured a comical/opinionated piggy bank named Hamm, aka Evil Dr. Porkchop, voiced by the hysterical John Ratzenberger.  We'd be perfectly content with a Toy Story Movie Marathon not just this holiday, but any day of the week.  We're thankful throughout all his adventures, he never was broken, as he is most likely the most fragile, being a piggy bank and all.
