The Green Bay Packers will retire Brett Favre's number 4 on Thanksgiving night at Lambeau Field. They'll be playing their top rival, and a team that Favre tormented, the Chicago Bears. November 26th, Favre's name and number will join the likes of Bart Starr and Reggie White on the facade of Lambeau. It's a reunion that has taken awhile to happen. Favre became famous for flip flopping on whether he wanted to come back for another season, or retire. He actually retired from football after the 2007 season, only to change his mind and want to return to the Packers. But the franchise had moved on with new QB Aaron Rodgers and Favre was dealt to the Jets, and eventually ended up playing in Minnesota for 2 seasons. Yes, it was awful to see Favre in purple. It was even worse when he beat the Pack.

I grew up a Favre fan just like any other Green Bay supporter in the 1990s. He led the Packers to a Super Bowl title in 1996, and a return trip in 1997. He won 3 straight MVP awards. But his antics towards the end of his career soured how I felt about him. But, the success of Aaron Rodgers and another Super Bowl title softened the blow of the post Favre era. Now, it's time to forget the past and honor him for his time with the Packers. And what better way to do it than on a night when the Packers play the Bears. It's the oldest rivalry in football, and Favre always loved playing Chicago. As a member of the Packers, Favre was 22-10 against the Bears and threw 53 touchdown passes. Two of his best games came versus the Bears.

It will be a special and emotional night in Green Bay on Thanksgiving. Number 4 is finally home, and another win against those darn Bears!
