Smoke was reported in the area around the business at just after 11 Wednesday evening. When a Cedar Rapids fire truck arrived, firefighters saw smoke coming from the top of the building. Additional fire trucks, area ambulance, and the Cedar Rapids Police Department were all called to the scene as well.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire and ventilate the building but not before the back part of the building suffered moderate smoke, fire, and water damage.

There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation. There's no word, yet, on how long the Village Meat Market may be closed due to the fire.
