Early last spring, we had our roof redone. Our house was built in 1999 and in that time frame, the so-called 30-year warranty shingles only lasted 10 to 15 years at the most. We decided we didn't want to roof the house again in 20 years or so with new shingles so we chose to go with the metal roof. The metal roofs last well over 50 years.

So far no complaints about this metal roof, but we have noticed one thing that happens after a snow fall and then some melting. Our house is a cape cod style with the steep pitch for a roof. Well now with the new metal roof, after a good amount of measurable snow and some melting, it's like a giant slide for the snow. So far since Sunday, three separate mini avalanches have occurred onto our driveway. No cars were near the snow droppings, but a good 5-10 minutes is what it takes to clean up the drive again. So now with the snow cleared off the garage roof, we should have clear sailing until the next snow storm.
