Dear Brain and Steele,

I've never heard a problem like this on your counseling corner before, so I thought I'd give it a shot.  My good friend is going out of town for two weeks, and while she is gone I'm watching and feeding her cats.  It's not that big a deal because she lives three houses down from me and the cats are super easy to take care of.  Even so...she left me a HUNDRED bucks for doing it!

It's weird, because now I feel like I am doing her a "service."  When she handed me the money I told her I didn't want it, but she insisted.  Should friends have to pay other friends to do favors for them?  If you're a true friend, don't you do this stuff for free?  Should I give her the money back?

Gary
