If you happen by a Twitter account, or, at least, a chatty co-worker sometime in the last few weeks, chances are you’ve heard the sound and the fury surrounding Netflix true crime documentary series Making a Murderer. Details and different players of the Avery-Dassey cases have been dissected all throughout the media in recent weeks, and now Investigation Discovery will get in on the action with a follow-up documentary special of its own.

Rushed to air as soon as January ends, Front Page: The Steven Avery Story will look to “better inform viewers in light of the nearly 300,000 people calling for the release of Avery,” sifting through some of the most recent details to come to light. Dateline NBC correspondent Keith Morrison will host the special while Investigation Discovery says of the effort:

We are excited to share with viewers the latest in this compelling saga. Following our investigation, we expect that Front Page: The Steven Avery Story will present crucial testimony and information that addresses many of the questions surrounding Steven Avery.

For those unfamiliar with the decade-long documentary from directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, Making a Murderer follows the case of Steven Avery, a Wisconsin man convicted of a brutal assault and sent to prison for 18 years, only to be exonerated by DNA evidence. Soon enough into a public civil case for justice reform, however, Steven found himself accused of the murder of young photographer Teresa Halbach, and subsequently railroaded through a lengthy trial under especially dubious circumstances, and apparent corruption at every turn.

The Investigation Discovery special will likely include some of the more recent developments with former prosecutor Ken Kratz, as well as Avery’s lawyers Dean Strang and Jerry Buting, and recent claims a juror may have voted guilty for fear of their own safety. We certainly hadn’t heard the last of Making a Murderer before, though Investigation Discovery has yet to set an official airdate for their own special.
