The Mount Vernon Police Department has received a report in reference to suspicious activity and an attempt to entice a child.  A parent reported to Mt. Vernon police yesterday that this past Saturday (March 29) a white vehicle, possibly a newer model Toyota Camry, with two white males pulled up to the curb and asked seven and eight year old girls if they wanted some candy.  The passenger reportedly held up a candy cane while talking to the girls, who then ran to safety as the vehicle drove off.

The passenger was described as a white male, approximately 30-years old, with blond hair and a brightly colored tattoo on his forearm.  The driver had brown hair, that was longer.

The mother reported the incident yesterday after hearing of a similar incident in Olin, Iowa on Monday.

Police encourage parents to talk with their children about what to do when approached by strangers.  I'm also including this link to the National Crime Prevention Council website, which may also help you in keeping your family safe.
