The new Mt. Trashmore park and trail system that was set to open earlier this month, has been pushed back temporarily.

It's not ready yet, due to other city construction projects that are taking priority. The new target opening date is September 6, and spokespeople with the Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency say these other projects include a major water main project.

They had tried getting the water main done more quickly, but things just didn't work out on time.

Meanwhile, while parts of Mt. Trashmore are being used as a construction site and compost facility, fencing is being installed to separate the construction from the active, publicly used parts of the site.

A ribbon cutting was held earlier in the week, and the project will likely be ready just in time for the beautiful sites and scenery of fall and the leaves changing color in Cedar Rapids. Get those camera phones ready!
