Over a hundred Waterloo residents gathered at last night's city council meeting to support Police Chief Dan Trelka, who has come under criticism by some community members.

According to CBS2 News, Chief Trelka was told by Mayor Quentin Hart that he needs to rebuild trust with Waterloo citizens, following a series of costly legal cases involving white officers and their interactions with black residents in the city.

With tensions running high around the country, it seems that this is a sensible course of action, and one that can only help Waterloo community come to terms with these issues.

Real progress takes trust, effort and genuine dialog with a true intent toward problem solving rather than finger-pointing. It is our hope that this step is the first of one in the right direction to help address these issues and move Waterloo citizens and public officials closer to resolution and understanding.
