The charges stem from January 13, 2018. Late that morning, Edgeton was found deceased inside her apartment at 316 Jacolyn Drive SW, in Shamrock Apartments in Cedar Rapids.

According to Cedar Rapids Police, their investigation determined Junkins broke into Edgeton's apartment and shot her. An autopsy by the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office determined Edgeton died from a gunshot wound.

Edgeton graduated from Metro High School in Cedar Rapids in 2015, had gotten married in 2017, and was employed by Living Center East in Cedar Rapids at the time of her death, according to the Gazette.

Junkins was already in custody at the Linn County Jail on an unrelated charge when he was charged with Murder in the First Degree and Burglary-First Degree.

The release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department also states the incident remains the subject of an ongoing investigation.
