If you've found yourself missing the Maquoketa Caves this summer, there's some good news on the horizon! The closed park will finally reopen later this month!

If you remember, way back in April the State Park announced that they would be closing down for the summer due to construction and campground renovations. It looks like those projects are close to completion, because, according to the Iowa DNR website, the park is still scheduled to reopen to the public on August 24th. The campground, on the other hand, will not reopen until October 31st because of the renumbering of campsites.

The Maquoketa Caves State Park is easily one of my favorite places in the entire state of Iowa. I'm bummed that they've been closed, but I'm glad that there will still be some time to go visit this summer! I might actually wait until the fall this year. It's probably gorgeous there when the leaves are changing!
