The man who caused a scary collision with a school bus over a week ago is missing, and Cedar Rapids police need your help in tracking him down.

It was February 10th that near tragedy happened downtown. James Frank Surrett, on the run from the police, sped through an intersection at First Ave and demolished a pick-up, then collided with a school bus, before being apprehended.  The First Avenue bridge and a portion of 1st St SW were closed for hours to clean-up the debris.  Luckily, the 4 kids and 2 school faculty aboard the bus were okay.  The woman and child in the pick-up were also okay, as was the baby she was carrying, which no one knew of at the time.

Surrett was charged with numerous counts including Eluding and drug possession. But two days after the crash, he posted bond and was released. We have since learned a new warrant has been issued, but police have been unable to locate him. Anyone who has any information on his whereabouts should call the Cedar Rapids Police Department at (319) 286-5491.
