Man Arrested in Iowa City for May Stabbing

An Iowa City man is now behind bars after allegedly stabbing a man back in May.

66-year-old Ronal A. Rarey was booked into the Johnson County Jail at around 2:00 AM Thursday on several charges stemming from the incident. Police say that Rarey, described as transient, allegedly stabbed a man several times in the Ped Mall of downtown Iowa City.

According to the Iowa City Press-Citizen, the stabbing occurred after the victim confronted Rarey after a comment was made about the victim's wife:

On May 7, Iowa City police said a man and his wife were walking past Rarey on the pedestrian mall in the 100 block of East College Street when Rarey made a rude comment about the man's wife.

When the man approached Rarey to speak with him about the comment, Rarey pulled out a knife and stabbed the man twice in the abdomen.

The unnamed victim spent several days in the hospital and made a full recovery.

Rarey was booked on the charges of willful injury causing serious injury and public intoxication, and faces up to ten years or more in prison.

The investigation is ongoing.
