Mahershala Ali was named Best Supporting Actor at the 2017 Academy Awards Sunday night (Feb. 26). The actor won for his acclaimed performance in Moonlight. This is Ali's first Academy Award win, and his first nomination. In his acceptance speech, Ali paid special mention of his wife, who was in her third trimester of pregnancy during awards season. Then the actor revealed the couple welcomed their first daughter, Bari Najma, into the world just four days prior on February 22.

Ali took home the Oscar over fellow nominees Jeff Bridges for Hell or High Water, Lucas Hedges for Manchester by the Sea, Dev Patel for Lion, and Michael Shannon for Nocturnal Animals.

Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the 89th Annual Academy Awards ceremony takes place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, February 26, broadcast live on ABC beginning at 8:30 PM EST. The 2017 Academy Award nominees were announced on January 24.
