It's the middle of January.  We're in the midst of another Iowa winter.  We've already been hit with some snow, and seen our share of bone chilling temperatures.  Everyone has their own way of coping and dealing with the winter weather, but here are a few winter themed life hacks to make the cold a little bit more bearable.

  • Mittens, not gloves.  Mittens will keep your hands warmer than gloves.  Your fingers can touch and share body heat while in mittens.
  • Ice-proof your windshield with vinegar.  Mix 3 parts vinegar and one part water, spray in on your windshield, and there won't be ice there in the morning.  You can also use it to melt ice that is already there.
  • Prep that snow shovel.  Get ready for the next big snow by spraying cooking spray on the shovel.  The snow won't stick to it.  You can also rub it down with vegetable oil.
  • Snow tires for your bike.  If you still want to ride your bike in the winter, just use zip ties on your tires.  Spread them out every couple of inches, cut off the excess length and BAM!  You've got snow tires on your bike!
