Every week we honor another awesome teacher in the local area with our ‘Teacher of the Week’ award!

Congratulations to Tarena Toy, a teacher at Clear Creek Elementary in Oxford! She is this week’s ‘Teacher of the Week!” She was nominated by Michelle Schuerer and her daughter Macey, and here’s what they had to say:

"I love Mrs. Toy. She helps me with my reading because I am dyslexic. She is always smiling and she even tutors me after school. She helps me do better and makes me feel better about my reading. I am 7-years-old. I love to tell my mom about the things I learn from Mrs. Toy."

"Mrs. Toy is an interventionist and works with small groups daily in math and reading. She also volunteers her time after school to tutor students, as well. She celebrates each and every success a student makes, helping give them the confidence to try without worrying about making a mistake. My 7-year-old daughter is dyslexic and under the direction of Mrs. Toy, her reading scores have improved so much it is almost unbelievable. My daughter never had the confidence in her own abilities to read aloud previously, now she is reading and sounding out every word in books, on street signs, and anywhere else she sees them. Mrs. Toy's enthusiasm for her career and each and every student she works with is evident in the happiness she shows each student, the smile always on her face, and the support she gives each and every student."

For winning, Tarena will be receiving gift cards from Wild Hogs in Walford, Peck’s Flower Shop, Half Price Books, and Kathy’s Pies.
