Congratulations to Tim Hadley of Pekin Community Schools, this week’s ‘Teacher of the Week!” He was nominated by Amber Johnston. Here’s what she had to say:

"My son Jackson shaved his head this weekend to show his support for his Papa Rick (my dad) who is currently battling cancer and undergoing treatments. Jackson didn't want him to feel alone when he lost his hair. At school Monday, some kids weren't very kind and made rude, hurtful comments regarding Jackson's haircut. Jackson was so very sad that kids/peers would react this way. Principal Tim Hadley found out that kids had reacted poorly and used this as an extremely moving teachable moment. He gathered all the middle school students as an assembly of sorts and asked Jackson to come up front. He commended him for standing up for what he believes in and taking a stand. He informed the students why Jackson shaved his head. And then he asked Jackson to shave his head in front of all the staff and students gathered. What Mr. Hadley did yesterday is something no one will soon forget. He touched each person who watched this in person or online. A lesson we can all take with us. Be kind to others!"

Tim will be receiving gift cards from Wild Hogs in Walford, Peck’s Flower Shop, Half Price Books, and Kathy’s Pies.
