George Strait turns 62 on May 18th, so I guess it's time.  The man who remains relevant ("I Got a Car" currently climbing the charts) despite the fact he was first heard on KHAK an astounding 33 years ago, is retiring from the road in less than two months.  He's said he'll do an occasional show in the future, but barring a big surprise, Friday night's concert in Des Moines is likely his last in Iowa.  It's sure to be a thrill for the thousands who were able to get tickets to the show, including those of you who will be joining Brain on the KHAK bus.

What a career it's been for the man known as 'The King of Country' and in the earlier years of his career, 'The Good Guy in the White Cowboy Hat.'  Good guy.  That definitely describes George Strait.  I've never talked to anyone who's had anything bad to say about him.  I've had the pleasure of seeing him several times over the years and met him at the Iowa State Fair in August of 1989.  Yes, that's me with the most pathetic mustache in history.  George was nearing 20 #1 songs at that time and would win his first CMA Entertainer of the Year Award less than two months later.

We'll be playing many of George's 60 #1 songs throughout the day Friday as we honor the living legend.  We love you George and just like the jersey given to you by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, you'll always be #1.

Register to win the flyaway to his very last show here.
