Kathy's Pies opened their doors in the mid-1980s and remained under the same ownership for 33 years, until February 1, 2019. That's the day Amy Jordan closed the deal to become the new owner of the sweet shop at 616 5th Ave SE in Cedar Rapids. Kathy's Pies went up for sale last year and the timing was perfect for Jordan.

Last May, Jordan got an "in-home bakery license." Her plan was to open a bakery somewhere in North Liberty or Coralville. Then she heard about Kathy's Pies being for sale and immediately put together a bid to buy it. She wasn't alone. Kathy McCauley, who co-owned the shop with Terri Henecke, received more than 30 offers.

Jordan had no idea how many products Kathy's makes. She told the Corridor Business Journal,

They do cookies, they do pies, they make wedding cakes, graduation cakes, bars, so many different things that they made, because the name is 'Kathy's Pies.' It's so much more than the pies, and I feel like it's a great opportunity for me.

So what's going to change? You may not notice it much, except you won't see as much of Kathy and Terri around the place. 'Kathy's Pies' will remain the name. Recipes changing? Nope. However, Jordan will be adding a few of her own recipes. A different logo? Nope. You don't mess with a good thing. Oh, and you'll still see Kathy and Terri around helping out for a few weeks and during the busiest times of the year.

One difference you will notice soon is the ability to order Kathy's Pies products online. Watch their website for that in the near future.
