Here's yet another reason why we are absolutely in love with the Cedar Rapids Public Library.  They are helping get you excited for the Chicago concert with a special event coming to the library next week, entitled "Jazz In The Stacks".

The Downtown library has done a lot since opening to become more than just a source for information and books, but also for education through performance.  We've seen classic film showings there (like the Halloween series they did), enjoyed speakers and performers in the Whipple Auditorium, and were stunned when they announced Holiday Brass were performing there during Fire and Ice.  Normally, you'd expect that to be a big no-no as libraries should be quiet, right?  Not the case, as they've found all levels of the Arts deserve a showcase at the library, which is where "Jazz In The Stacks" comes in.
The event will be held next Thursday, Feb. 12th, at 7pm, and will feature the group BTA: Brass Transit Authority, an obvious tribute to Chicago (who's original name was Chicago Transit Authority), as well as Blood, Sweat, and Tears. Better yet, the event is free. However, you must register here.

As a dad in the "music industry", it's important to me to make sure my kids get a well rounded education in music, from the Beatles to Beethoven to Count Basie and more.  I was stunned when I got in the car the other day and they were enjoying a jazz CD I had in the player. As such, I highly recommend this event for families (with slightly older children), as well as all who are excited as we are for the Chicago concert.  Can't wait for May 21st.  However, this will help for now.
