With Halloween just around the corner, we're all looking for a good scare. But some of us like to visit places that might just really be haunted. Thrillist did a great article about the most haunted places in each state. In Iowa, I'm not sure it's even a contest. The most haunted spot in Iowa is a small house in Villisca.

On June 9th, 1912, Josiah Moore, his wife and kids, and two friends of his children were killed in the small house in Villisca. 8 victims, 6 of them young children, were killed with an ax. It was a brutal and bloody crime. A local preacher admitted to the crime by later recanted. His trial ended in a hung jury. So is the Ax Murder House in Villisca haunted by the spirits of the lives taken there? Many people have stayed in the house and claimed to have heard and experienced strange and frightening things. Here is video from inside the actual house.

The inside of the house and the decor is virtually unchanged from the days of the crime. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't pay to stay in that house overnight! I can't think of any location with a more frightening history in Iowa than this.
