Iowa’s Most Popular Comfort Food in 2017

As we think about things to look forward to in 2018, we reflect on our favorite things from this year. More specifically, food!

There are so many delicious comfort foods out there from ice cream to pizza. In fact, our mouths are watering just thinking about it! WalletHub compiled a list each state's favorite comfort foods for 2017 and the winner for Iowa was none other than the loose meat sandwich!

If you've never experienced a loose meat sandwich before, it's basically a sloppy joe. And it was crafted right here in Iowa! According to maidrite.com, "in 1926, the Maid-Rite sandwich was born when Fred Angell started the concept in Muscatine, Iowa." The Maid-Rite (or loose meat sandwich) is made of "finely ground hamburger that is cooked, put in a bun, and then served with mustard, pickles or chopped onions." Yum!
