One of the great things about living in Iowa is that we gather and help each other when disaster strikes. We also help others in need across the country. Iowans are gathering and preparing to help residents in the Carolinas and other areas of the East Coast as they prepare for Hurricane Florence.

Officials and volunteers with the American Red Cross in Iowa are mobilizing and heading east to help residents who will be affected when Florence makes landfall early Friday. Many of these volunteers have been through hurricanes before and know how much help and support the victims will need in the coming days. The Iowa delegation is also mobilizing their ERV's, or Emergency Response Vehicles. They carry supplies like food and water and help make sure everyone has what they need as the storm hits.

If you'd like to help out the American Red Cross and their response to Hurricane Florence, you visit redcross.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS, or text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10.
