The Iowa wrestling program added another Olympian to the impressive list of alumni Sunday. Unfortunately, it came at the expense of another former Hawk. Daniel Dennis swept Tony Ramos in a best of three series at 125 and a half pounds to secure his Olympic bid. He becomes the first Iowa wrestler to appear in the games since 2008. Dennis is a two-time All-American and a 2010 NCAA runner-up.

Ramos, who capped his Iowa career in 2014 with an NCAA crown, was disappointed and had some harsh words for the Iowa coaching staff following the loss. Ramos was upset that Iowa coaches, including head coach Tom Brands, were in Daniels corner and not his during the match. According to Ramos, Brands and others had said they would support Ramos in the final. He later learned on social media they would be in Daniel's corner. Brands said that he supported both wrestlers and that Ramos' comments were "sour grapes."

Daniels had been away from the sport fo several years before returning in 2015. He never envisioned the Olympics when he came back, but he is excited about the potential.
