A young woman from eastern Iowa is one election away from making history. Abby Finkenauer of Dubuque defeated three other candidates to win the Democratic primary last night for the 1st Congressional District of Iowa. She'll now take on Republican House incumbent Rod Blum in November and, if she wins, it will be unprecedented.

Never in the history of Congress has a woman as young as Finkenauer been elected, according to the Des Moines Register. Abby Finkenauer is 29-years-old and is currently serving a second term in the Iowa state legislator.

Iowans also determined who will take on Republican incumbent governor Kim Reynolds last night. Fred Hubbell, a businessman from Des Moines, was the winner of that race.
