So far, the winter weather we've had is very tolerable. How long will it last? The NOAA Climate Prediction Center's three month outlook says El Nino will keep the winter mild, at least compared to years past.

National Weather Service reports temperature and precipitation impacts from El Nino are predicted to increase in January, February and March. What this means is we'll likely continue to see warm and dry conditions dominate our weather through March.

In years past, the polar vortex would hit and stick around for a week or 2. We'll feel the polar vortex this weekend especially on Sunday when the temps are expect to be in the single digits and over night lows below zero, but don't look for that to last very long.

The latest long term forecast shows average precipitation for Iowa's central counties, slightly below normal for the eastern counties and slightly above normal for the western counties. As far as temperatures, we should stay above normal temperatures for all of Iowa from January through March.
