Iowa has landed another set of twins for the wrestling program. Having twins on the Iowa wrestling team has been VERY good to the program over the years. I'll get to that, but first let's talk about the two young Iowa men who made their verbal commitments this week.

Cullan and Colby Schriever of Mason City are headed to Iowa City. Black Heart Gold Pants reports new rules allow in-home visits by coaches beginning September 1 of the student-athletes junior year. Iowa's head man, Tom Brands, was there that night when the clock struck midnight.

Cullan is the top prospect in the state of Iowa. Already a two-time Iowa high school champ, he's also won a pair of national freestyle titles. He's expected to wrestle at 120 pounds during his junior year at Mason City this winter.

Colby Schriever is a two-time state qualifier and finished seventh his sophomore season. This summer he walked away with the Iowa Freestyle and Greco titles. He'll wrestle at 138 pounds for Mason City this winter.

The brothers will join the Hawkeye program in a couple of seasons and follow a lengthy list of successful twins that have been in the program. I'll take you back as far as my memory goes.

Lou Banach-1981 and 1983 NCAA Champion. 1984 Olympic Gold Medal winner.
Ed Banach-1980, 1981, and 1983 NCAA Champion. 1984 Olympic Gold Medal winner.

Tom Brands-1991, 1992, and 1993 NCAA Champion. 1996 Olympic Gold Medal winner.
Terry Brands-1990 and 1992 NCAA Champion. 1996 Gold Medal Winner. 2000 Bronze  Medal Winner.

Troy Steiner-1992 NCAA Champion. Also finished second, third, and fifth during his career.
Terry Steiner-1993 NCAA Champion.

Am I forgetting anyone?

The numbers above are nothing short of incredible. Three sets of twins that wrestled at Iowa have combined for 12 national titles. The Schriever twins will have a chance to add to that amazing Hawkeye wrestling history beginning in 2020-21.
