Iowa senator Chuck Grassley announced yesterday that he will meet with Supreme Court nominee Judge Merrick Garland. The chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee said that he spoke with Garland Monday and invited him to breakfast. The time and date of the meeting are not known.

Grassley has repeatedly said that he will refuse to hold hearings on President Obama's Supreme Court nominee. According to Grassley's office, the meeting with Garland will be to discuss why the Senate will not consider a nominee until the next President takes office.

The decision not to hold hearings has been a controversial one for Grassley. The Senator heard from constituents during the Easter recess at several town hall meetings in northwest Iowa. Their message? "Do your job."

Monday's conversation was the second between Grassley and Garland, who was nominated by President Obama to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court left by the late Justice Scalia.
