Iowans are a fairly happy group of people. A new survey by WalletHub.com shows why. The Hawkeye state ranked at number 8 in a list of the happiest states in the U.S.  The survey looked at 25 factors in determining how 'happy' a state was or wasn't, including crime rates, how much sleep people get, how many hours they work and time spent outdoors.

Iowa placed very high on the list for Lowest Long Term Unemployment and Work Environment. Beating out Iowa in happiness were Utah, Minnesota, Hawaii, Colorado, North Dakota, Nebraska and Washington. Utah by the way, at number one, is also the state where workers work the fewest hours. Coincidence? I think not!

Now, the other end. The UN-happiest states. West Virginia, Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee make up that end of the list. What do those states have in common? High work hours, high obesity rates and high rates of depression. That will make you unhappy pretty quick. Iowa might not be the sexiest state to live in, but at least we're happy!
