Iowa National Guard Troops Head To Florida

The Iowa Army National Guard is heading to Florida to join rescue efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. Four helicopters and 19 soldiers deployed on Monday.

Some of the soldiers headed out just got back Friday from a seven-day mission in Texas, where they helped in the response to Hurricane Harvey. A quick turnaround to be sure. Most of the troops don't know what their specific mission is yet. They'll find out when they arrive in Florida.

While in Texas, Iowa National Guard troops and choppers helped move food, water, and other supplies. They also took part in search and rescue missions and damage assessments from the air. They're assuming their duties in Florida will be similar.

The troops that have deployed are from units based in Davenport, Iowa City, Boone, and Waterloo.
